Where we work

The EQUAL consortium is conducting research in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Northeast Nigeria, Somalia, and South Sudan – countries and regions where maternal and newborn mortality rates are among the highest in the world. These countries are chronically affected by conflict and rank in the top 16 most fragile contexts globally.

We chose to focus specifically on low-income, conflict-affected countries in Sub-Saharan Africa in order to generate context-specific evidence that acknowledges the unique challenges of humanitarian crises within the region.
